Human Resources.. And the spark of launch

The end of the eighteenth century until the beginning of the twentieth century was marked by significant technological, economic and social changes resulting from the first and second industrial revolution, which first erupted in Britain with the discovery of the steam machine. The growth of the textile and steel industry, the most important industries today, accelerated. After that, the phenomenon spread to the rest of Europe and then North America in the early nineteenth century, creating a working class around industrial areas and appearing industrial crafts. The new reality begins to change significantly and affect people's lifestyles and habits. The concept of urbanization has changed. Its main criterion has become the presence of factories that have become distinctive The major cities of rural areas, which were mostly still living in the pre-industrial era. Industries such as the textile industry, which has been conducted at home at the household level for hundreds of years, have turned into mechanical manufacturing, including workers working in large factories and huge production lines. The industrial revolution brought about major social transformations in Britain, followed later by the United States of America. These transformations were evident by the mid-nineteenth century. Before the industrial revolution, American work was largely based on agriculture. As a result, farmers worked for their own account or for their family members or neighbors. The functional relationships were personal and small in size. With the growth of mechanical plants and machines, more work is done in factories that employ large numbers of workers who may never meet the company owner. The social separation between the employer and the worker has led to ignoring, failing or failing to listen to the complaints of employees and take them into account, despite the dangerous work environment in factories due to the new machines with huge power than the ones we had previously experienced.

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, tension between employees and employers peaked. Resentment with unfair labor practices and concern about the safety and preservation of the market, an increasing number of Americans have joined progressive movements that seek to reveal the dark side of industry and uncontrolled capitalism and seek change through new legislation and constitutional amendments. At the same time, workers across the country have been adopting a more direct — and often violent — approach to seeking change! This period has seen stories of violent movements by groups such as “Molly Maguires”, the group responsible for a series of assassinations and terrorist acts in Virginia and Pennsylvania, to cause violent and fatal clashes between workers and employers such as the “Ludlow Massacre” and the “Haymarket Incident” in which 7 police officers and 4 civilians were killed.

Many employers have violently resisted calls for better working conditions, and the status quo was clearly unstable and unsustainable, so some companies started looking for ways to improve relationships with the workforce.

The establishment of the first Human Resources Department is usually attributed to the establishment of the Personal Affairs Department by NCR in the early 20th century. The department was created in response to a number of strikes and employee withdrawals. It was mandated to address and adjudicate workers' complaints, safety issues and train supervisors on laws, regulations and new company policies to start a new chapter with human resources.

The human resources function has continued to develop until it is now, to be one of the pillars of the success of companies and establishments, but it will not be completed and reach the best stages unless we enable human resources officers to have the necessary knowledge that creates change and makes a difference. That is why we launched the “Utopia of the Work Environment” community, the only Arab community that brings together officials, interested people and influencers in the field of human resources to exchange ideas, experiences and science, accelerate development and improve work environments.

The “Utopia of the Work Environment” community discusses everything related to improving the work environment, with scientific articles, practical experiments, or even suggestions. Small workshops and short meetings are also held with senior officials in the field of human resources and decision makers, all to create an ideal and perfect work environment such as Plato's utopia
